Who We Are
At DWW Kenya, our objective is to provide high quality primary health care to the communities we serve.
Effective primary health care at the local level is particularly important in developing countries. We believe it is a low cost and high impact means of bettering communities and building sustainability when compared to curative and hospital based medicine. We focus on high impact initiatives like effective delivery of vaccinations, maternal care, treatment of common diseases (such as malaria), child health care and nutrition, and health education.
Our Story
Our emphasis is on providing primary healthcare, including maternal health. We also run public health and community health programs. Our social care programs focus on healthcare and support for orphans, vulnerable and disabled children.
Our experience is extensive and derived from years of running healthcare services across developing countries, particularly in Africa and S Asia. We believe that health equity and social justice in healthcare starts with being on the ground; living with those who lack basic access to care and being in their communities for the longer term. We are passionate about running quality health services at the local level that have a big impact.
Since its inception, DWW Kenya was affiliated with and sponsored by Doctors Worldwide UK. However, in 2018, DWW UK made the decision to exit from this kind of work and change their strategy in East Africa. For this reason, the former management team of DWW UK and a board member from DWW USA established Medisina. Medisina is a nongovernmental organization with charity status in the UK and the USA. Medisina was created to continue the programs in Kenya, which would have otherwise meant closure of health facilities and thousands left without essential healthcare. Medisina is an independent not for profit dedicated to helping those in need.
